MSA Latchways Constant Force posts provide assured worker safety at height where people need to access flat or profiled roofs. The energy-absorbing post reacts in a fall and reduces the load transferred into the building structure, which is why the system suits standing-seam, membrane and metal roofs that cannot take an unarrested shock load.

We are approved Latchways installers for Constant Force posts and LadderLatch systems. That means posts are surveyed, fixed, tested and certified to the manufacturer’s specification, not approximated on site.

Freestanding Constant Force posts are used where there is an occasional or temporary need to access a flat roof or structure without a permanent penetrating fix. Fixed posts are used on profiled metal and standing-seam roofs for regular maintenance routes.

How a horizontal lifeline is used

Operatives wear a full-body harness and travel along the cable hands-free. The line is planned around plant, skylights and access points so the user stays in restraint or fall arrest as the risk requires. Typical uses include:

Roof plant and PV maintenance
Gutter and membrane inspection
Cleaning and fabric access on commercial roofs
Routes where a collective guardrail is not practical

A Constant Force line is a personal system. It only protects people who are trained, clipped on and using the right PPE. Where a roof is used often by mixed trades, a guardrail or walkway may be the better first measure.

Survey, install and certify

Layouts are drawn from a site survey of the roof covering, purlin centres and access frequency. We install, load-test and hand over certification. Single-point anchor systems can sit alongside the line where a cable cannot reach a confined area. Recertification is available through our inspection service.
