Permanent lifeline on a profiled metal roof

A production building with a large profiled metal roof needed a permanent way for maintenance teams to reach plant without scaffolding each visit. The covering could not take an unarrested fall load, so the specification called for energy-absorbing posts.
The challenge
Access was occasional but essential: gutters, vents and rooftop plant. A full perimeter guardrail would have been visually heavy and slower to install than a personal system on this geometry. Operatives still had to be protected from the eaves and from working near roof lights.
What we installed
As approved Latchways installers we surveyed purlin centres and specified Constant Force posts with a horizontal lifeline. Posts were fixed to the ridges, tested and certified to EN 795. A defined walkway was added on the main route so users were not walking unprotected metal either side of the cable.
The result
Facilities staff can now clip on, travel the line hands-free and complete planned maintenance under fall arrest. The system sits on the 12-month inspection cycle with digital records for the client’s audit trail.
