Roof edge protection and safety netting combined on a large steel structure, giving a physical barrier at the leading edge.

A large steel structure — industrial in scale, with a high eaves line — needed a physical barrier at the leading edge while nets protected the bays inboard. The principal contractor wanted one supplier for both, with FASET-trained riggers employed directly rather than a chain of subcontractors.

The challenge

Open steel, changing access as cladding progressed, and a need to keep the public and site traffic clear of falling material. Class A/B/C edge protection had to be reconfigured as the frame advanced, while safety netting stayed in until the roof was closed.

What we installed

Perimeter guardrails and handrails to BS EN 13374, with fall-arrest nets beneath the rafters to BS EN 1263. Our CSCS FASET-trained teams rigged, inspected and adapted the layout as the programme moved, using IPAF access where required.

The result

A collective system at the edge and under the roof, installed and signed off by the same in-house team. That cut interface risk between trades and kept the temporary-works package in one set of RAMS.
